Know Your Meme: Christian Bale Rant

Never got around to writing up notes on this episode last week.

The Christian Bale Rant was one of those events that was ridiculously popular for a hot second but had an incredibly fast roll off. Because of that, we decided to concentrate on the reasons why it fell off so fast instead of retelling a story that everyone already seemed to know.

One of the things we do in this video is distinguish between the recording’s viral qualities and it’s memetic ones. Laid out this way, virality means: it’s ability to replicate while memetic means it’s remixability. I’m not sure if this demarcation will hold in the long term but it felt like a safe way to define it for now.

The inclusion of ‘Titanic’ and ‘I’m an Anteater’ as a non-sequitur was an on-set decision (nice improvisation, Jamie.)

Research by Chris Menning, Jamie Wilkinson, Andrew Baron, and Ellie Rountree. Written by Chris, Jamie, Ellie, and myself. On camera: Jamie. Edited by Barry Pousman with assistance from Eric Brown. Notable: this was Ellie’s directorial debut for Know Your Meme. (Great job, Ellie!)

(Yeah I’m a blip.tv founder reblogging a Vimeo video, so what? First of all those guys are cool. Second, Know Your Meme is totally worth it.)
