It’s the second taste that gets us
It’s days like this that I love walking to work. New York is blossoming with people. The bikes suddenly seem to outnumber the cars. The sidewalks are suddenly crowded again. It’s because it’s the second taste that gets us.
It’s as if we tend to collectively forget that winter doesn’t go down that easy. A nice day springs up and we think, “Oh, spring is finally here! No need to rush outside, there’s at least another month or two before summer”. We put away our heavy coats, scarves and hats and go on about our business.
Invariably winter comes back. The temperatures start dipping below freezing again, and then stay awhile. We drag the heavy coats back out. This time winter even threw in a little snow for good measure.
Once it starts to warm up again, it’s that second taste of spring that gets us all outside. We’ll be damned if we’re going to miss another opportunity. It wasn’t even that nice today, the wind still had that cold bite to it, but it was good enough for us to take advantage.
