Taking stock of the year with Sent Mail

Go into your gmail and do an advanced search. Look for anything in your Sent Mail folder that is within 2 months of 1/1/08. Now read and think about what you were up to a year ago.

  • At blip we were feverishly working on Fivehead, our experiment with having a curated shared viewing experience combined with chat. It never really panned out, partly because we didn’t give it much of a chance, and partly because it just wasn’t that sticky.
  • In my personal life I was in a bit of a rut. I was bored. I was writing Jen that I really needed get out and start seeing something new. Later that year I would find my outlet in NYC Resistor.
  • An ex had emailed to say she was surprised to find out on Friendster that I was married now. A part of her wished she could have been at the wedding. No life lessons here, it was just weird to read that again.
  • I was living in Cobble Hill Brooklyn. We used to use this online laundry service from time to time and there’s a couple of email exchanges in there surrounding a rescheduling. I’ve since moved twice. I miss the old hood sometimes, but I like it here too, and love walking to work.
So that’s it. Unfortunately it’s only a small portion, because at the time I hadn’t yet figured out how to jam my blip mail down gmail’s gullet. It’s this hosted Exchange mess, fugetaboutit. Anyway, go check out your mail from a year ago, it’ll surprise you.
